SWELLENDAM – Despite an urgent call to action, only a small group of about 15 determined picketers gathered under a tree in front of the torched municipal building in Voortrek Street on Wednesday morning.
The protest, aimed at demanding accountability and standing against corruption, was met with lukewarm support from the community.
To make matters worse, the gloomy weather quite literally rained on their parade, as rainy wet weather forced the small group of protestors to huddle together for shelter.
While turnout was low, picketers remained steadfast in their message, urging residents to take a stand against ‘Francois du Rand and his team’ [sic].
SAPS patrolled the area and besides some verbal abuse shouted at the Langeberg media reporter, no other incidents were reported.
