Statement of the Swellendamse Sakekamer28.01.25; 17:00

The Mayor, Francois du Rand (DA) have been removed as Executive Mayor by a Motion of No-Confidence by the VF+ and ANC in a Special Council Meeting that have brought some political changes in the landscape of the Swellendam Municipality Council that removed the DA and VF+ coalition from holding ruling power. 

The VF+ have voted against the coalition between the DA and FV+ in favour of the ANC.  

Because of the abovementioned that have put the ANC in power of the Swellendam Municipality. The council have seven days to select a new Executive Mayor. The possible date scheduled is 03/02/25 – this coming Monday.  

The Swellendamse Sakekamer will still remain committed to give support, information, and feedback to improve the life of all citizens, with cooperation with everyone, due to the challenge, failures and mixed feelings that we experience.  

We also encourage all residents to stay positive and focus during this period of time, and to help build the future.
